As neighbors and a local small business, we like to find ways to serve the community in which we live and work. From rescue to pet visitation programs to providing blood bank services for pets, we do our best to make our community a better place. Below is a description of the programs we support.
Pet Visitation Program at Littleton Adventist Hospital
In 2005, Littleton Adventist Hospital introduced a pet therapy program, whereby dogs visit with patients at the hospital. Research shows that animal-assisted therapy can significantly reduce pain, anxiety, and stress in people with a range of health problems.
Since patient safety is of utmost concern, therapy dogs are screened stringently for health and behavior. Each pet goes through a comprehensive health assessment that includes vaccinations, health assessment, and an evaluation of behavioral temperament and other factors. That is where Deer Creek Animal Hospital steps in. We volunteer our services to ensure the dogs in the program are parasite free, vaccinated, and properly evaluated. We are honored to offer our veterinary support for such a worthy program.
Deer Creek Animal Hospital provides medical treatment to wildlife brought to our hospital by local animal control and wildlife officers at no cost. Many animals are then released to the care of qualified individuals or organizations for rehabilitation. We have seen a wide range of animals, including hawks, owls, ducks, geese, raccoons, a fox, and even a beaver.
Deer Creek is proud to support a wide variety of rescue groups and organizations focused on the rescue and safe placement of animals throughout our community. We currently have a relationship with more than 30 rescue groups. Please follow the links to learn more about each group or contact them if you are interested in adopting a homeless pet.
Pet Blood Banks
Your pet’s donation of blood could save the life of someone else’s best friend. Just like in human medicine, in some cases, there is no substitute for a blood transfusion when it comes to saving a beloved pet’s life. We need your help! Your pet’s donation every three to six months will enable us to offer life-saving blood in emergency situations to dogs and cats that can’t afford to wait. For more information about enrolling your pet as a blood donor, contact us.
Childrens Hospital Dog Wash
This event is to benefit the Prescription Pet Program at Children's Hospital Colorado. The program consists of therapy dogs who visit the patients and their families. Dr. Thornton and Dr. Kuschel have been volunteering their time over many years to evaluate the therapy dogs. The hospital itself has been doing this fund raiser for 25 years. We have been supporting their efforts for the past 20 years! The annual Dog Wash is July 13, 2014. We have a rain date of July 20th.
If you have any questions about these programs or want to get involved, please do not hesitate to contact us.
