Laparoscopy

h

Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton has pioneered a new laparoscopic ovariohysterctomy (spay) procedure that diminishes pain and recovery time for female dogs by up to 65 percent compared to the traditional method. Laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy is minimally invasive and safer because the entire procedure is performed through a dime-sized incision, and, while doctors view the organs via a state-of-the-art camera system, the ovaries and uterus are removed by cauterizing the blood vessels and ligaments. The procedure eliminates tearing of the ligaments, potential tearing of the body wall and possible hemorrhage by the main arteries to the ovaries. The veterinarians at Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton have performed hundreds of laparoscopic ovariohysterectomies, making our doctors some of the country’s most proficient experts in the technique.

Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton continues to provide overnight nursing care for laparoscopic spay patients to ensure comfort and pain management. Veterinary technicians report that laparoscopic patients rest more comfortably and recover more quickly than traditional-spay patients.

Arthroscopy

Denver Veterinarian

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to introduce a camera into a joint to diagnose and treat disease. This minimally invasive technique improves recovery time and decreases pain for our patients.

Dentistry

Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver

The same high quality of dental procedures performed on your teeth are performed on your pet's teeth at Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton.  The only difference is that your dog or cat will need to be anesthetized during dental procedures.  We strongly recommend that your learn how to properly brush your pet's teeth on a daily basis to prevent serious dental problems and other diseases.  Remember, dogs and cats cannot use human toothpaste, but require a toothpaste specially formulated for animals.

Emergency Medicine

h

Flexible Endoscopy

h

We have a fiberoptic endoscope here at Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton. It allows us to look inside a patient's digestive tract without surgery. The pet must be anesthetized, but there is no incision, and the procedure is much less invasive. This is useful for retrieving foreign objects from the stomach, looking for ulcers, and obtaining biopsy samples.

Surgery

h

Patients are connected to EKG, respiratory, blood oxygen and blood pressure monitors, just like in a human hospital.  We use only the safest anesthesia and provide pain relief medications for your pet's comfort.  Clients are notified on the status of their pet following surgery.  Patients receive around-the-clock nursing care.  Clients are encouraged to visit their pet during business hours and can always check on their pet's status with one of our nurses at any time.

Ultrasound

h

Ultrasound is another non-invasive diagnostic tool that we have at Deer Creek Animal Hospital Denver / Littleton. This is the same technology utilized to view a fetus in a pregnant woman. It is useful in imaging the heart (we can actually watch how effectively it beats) and organs in the abdomen (such as the liver, spleen and bladder).

Digital Radiology

d

Radiographs (x-rays) are often helpful in diagnosing our patients. They allow us to see inside a patient non-invasively. We frequently take regular x-rays, and sometimes special studies (e.g. a barium series) to help us determine what is going on inside your pet.  Our well trained and compassionate staff carefully handle your pet during radiology procedures.

Pet Selection Consultation

h

Developing a mutually rewarding relationship with your new pet is important. The first step is picking the right pet through a Pet Selection Consultation. We focus on answering such questions about your preferences, lifestyle, family, other pets in the household, and what activities you intend to do with your pet. Different breeds exhibit different traits and behaviors, and we want to match you with a pet that will help ensure that positive relationship.

Senior Medicine

h

The field of veterinary medicine has changed, allowing a much greater life expectancy for your pet. Unfortunately, along with the increase in life span comes a greater potential of age-related illnesses. Recent studies indicate that 20% of cats and dogs over the age of seven years have serious undetected medical conditions. We recommend a Senior Wellness Program for the early detection and treatment of disease for our senior patients. A physical exam, blood pressure, ECG, laboratory testing, fecal testing for parasites, chest and abdominal x-rays, an eye exam with Tonometry and Schirmer tests are part of an early detection system to help maintain and sustain a high quality of life for your aging pet.

Wellness & Preventive Care

h

Dogs and cats age much more quickly than humans and the gradual onset of disease in seemingly healthy pets will often go unnoticed. When symptoms do appear, the condition may be difficult to treat and result in costly treatment. Regularly scheduled wellness exams are so important for your pet’s overall quality of life. Regular dental care, vaccinations, the control of parasites through routine fecal testing, and a well balanced diet are key elements for the prevention of disease. Laboratory testing for the early detection of changes in health status are an important means to diagnose blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, infection, cancer, thyroid disease and other hormonal problems.

Physical Therapy

h

Marty Pease, MSPT, CCRP has joined our staff in order to provide animal rehabilitation for our patients. Animal rehabilitation therapies and treatments are designed to help restore a pet's prior abilities, ease discomfort and maximize functional outcome following a procedure. Deer Creek Animal Hospital has constructed a spacious indoor swimming pool and has added animal rehabilitation as a helpful adjunct to services already provided. The primary goal of any rehabilitative program is to improve the function of the patient and return to normal levels of activity as quickly as possible. This objective is accomplished by decreasing pain and swelling, enhancing joint biomechanics, restoring normal joint mobility, increasing strength and improving proprioception (sense of position in space). The mission of rehabilitation is fulfilled when the patient is able to play, run and walk without pain.

Behavioral Therapy

Denver Veterinarian

We don't just solve medical problems at Deer Creek Animal Hospital. We want to help you understand and modify your pet's behavior so that your relationship is mutually rewarding. The first step is getting the right pet by offering pre-selection counseling. Some of the common animal behavior problems we address are: house soiling, biting, jumping up, noise phobia, scratching, destructiveness, tail chasing, fear or aggression with children or strangers, chewing, guarding objects and unruliness. Preventing problems is always preferable to treating them.  Consultations are provided at the hospital or in your home by Dr. Laurie Thornton.  Dr. Thornton is a member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and was published in The Journal of the Veterinary Medical Association for one of her behavioral case studies. DCAH also offers Puppy Pre-School (for puppies under 6 months of age) and Basic Training (for dogs 6 months and older).
